Rory Schmier

Rory Schmier is a 56-year-old construction professional and ranch manager living in Arboles, Colorado. He was born in Durango and spent his early childhood moving with his family throughout various parts of the state. He attended school in Pagosa Springs through fifth grade before settling in Monte Vista, where he completed high school. These early moves exposed him to a range of rural communities, helping to develop his adaptability and strong work ethic.

After high school, Rory began working as a farmhand for a local family-owned operation. Over six years, he gained hands-on experience in land management, equipment operation, and the rhythm of agricultural seasons. Looking to expand his skills, he spent a year in Las Vegas, Nevada, working as a mason. This role introduced him to construction and gave him practical building experience that would later support his long-term career.

Rory returned to Colorado and co-owned a liquor store in the Alamosa area for five years. This business experience taught him about customer service, inventory control, and day-to-day operations. Eventually, he pursued his interest in construction full-time, founding a custom home building and remodeling company. For over two decades, he managed projects across the San Luis Valley and Durango areas, earning a strong reputation for quality artistry and dedication.

In 2012, Rory shifted back into agriculture as the manager of a 300-acre hay operation near Durango. He now oversees all phases of hay production, from planting and irrigation to harvesting and equipment maintenance. He also manages rental properties on the ranch and coordinates hay distribution throughout the region.

Outside of work, Rory enjoys motorcycle riding, boating, water skiing, hunting, and camping. He also volunteers as a handy person to assist elderly residents in maintaining safe living spaces.

Rory Schmier continues to reside in the Durango area, where his combined experience in agriculture, construction, and community service remains an asset to the people and land around him.
